The efficacy of the ABS airbag system has been clearly proven over the past 10 years, since the introduction of the TwinBag system. A survival rate of 97% based on around 250 avalanche accidents with ABS systems will convince even the most skeptical. When purchasing an avalanche airbag, skiers and snowboarders should, however, pay close attention to whether the system being offered meets the basic requirements, such as horizontal gliding on the avalanche, multi-chamber airbags, protective brace position and user-friendly operation.

It is the effectiveness of the entire airbag system that prevents avalanche victims from being buried, and not a particular functionality of the backpack.
